Romney the Pipe Fitter

It's hard to imagine any politician except maybe George W. Bush or Rick Perry getting their hands dirty with an oil and natural gas pipeline project.  Denim jeans, work shirts, and hardhats are not the typical garb of the finely dressed speakers we see on TV.  That is part of why Romney's vow to "build the Keystone Pipeline" himself is funny.  The other part is that politicians are known for spouting ideas but not backing them up with actions.  So what do we make of Romney when he says he will build a pipeline himself?

His words will be dismissed by democrat supporters as playing the tune the republicans want to hear - jobs, jobs, jobs - especially when he said labor unions got in the way of Obama's support of the pipeline.  Um, this might be news to the Romney campaign, but Obama is just as in bed with Wall Street as anyone else in Washington politics!  In this case, though, Romney's vow is welcome because it offers a different tone from others who don't have the business experience and gubernatorial experience of seeing projects through on strict budgets.  He presents himself as someone who will get involved personally in projects that he sees as essential to promoting job growth.

I'm not saying whether building the pipeline will do much difference to the overall economy, but it is that kind of attitude a leader needs to take if things are to be changed for the better.
